Sense of Place, January 26, 2011

The story details the actions familiar to many but visually forcing a strangeness to these actions.

This video visualizes the uncanny by recording my actions backwards and playing them forward to correct them. I want to make the familiar subtlety strange, conveying my sense of place through a series of actions. The reverse effect in correcting the actions causes tensions between myself and my body.

Source of the main idea that you started with and its importance to you.
To be familiar with something or anyone is very intimate and also recognizable. I use the reversals to make the everyday actions seem off but acknowledged to be similar.

A sense of waiting besides transitioning seemed to come out of the editing. I think leaving the ending without resolution is key because I don't wish for a resolution. Perhaps a slice of life.

I enjoy how I build up the subtleties of the reversals. I think I pulled off the actions concisely and in a controlled manner.

I think the shoes and the mirror shot are most problematic because they directly show a reversal effect unlike the other shots where the actions are subtle.
The ending shot remains meditative but it is too long. I don't want to show where I am going because that does not matter to me. The space I am in is already problematic, it seems redundant to portray myself in a different setting entirely, doing the same actions while I can portray them in a single setting.
I deleted two scenes that didn't come off as conflict in the reversals, but I want to go ahead and delete the sink. It has nothing to do with my body. It's more about the water. It's too normal.
I need to control the composition more. And make this video better quality instead of a webcam.
